Try Vaulting!

We are a nationally competitive sports program incorporating dance and gymnastics on the back of a moving horse. Our current LAEVC vaulters range in age from 6 to 28 and compete regionally, nationally and worldwide as individuals, pairs (called pas-de-deux) and teams.  Our youngest athletes practice and compete at the walk gait and progress to trot, and canter, based on strength, height, and ability to mount and perform on the horse.

Los Angeles Equestrian Vaulting Club maintains a year-round schedule of group
competitive vaulting classes.
To try vaulting with our club, your first group lesson will be free, on the first Saturday of every month.

“There is nothing quite like vaulting.
It's like an endless wave.
It's a dance on a moving platform.
The power that the horse provides is the ultimate rush in addition to
an artistic expression."

MEET OUR COACHES

Head Coach Blake Dahlgren

Blake Dahlgren has been vaulting since the age of two.

He has literally grown up vaulting. Blake started vaulting recreationally with his mother Sandy and his brother Brent. Blake now stands 6'4 and is currently one of the tallest vaulters in the sport. Blake found a way to turn his height into an advantage and has been a part of 15 National Championships. His accomplishments have come both as a team member and individually.

Blake has represented our country in international competition for the last 12 years and is a well know clinician both Nationally and Internationally.  He has competed in the last 3 World Equestrian Games and 3 World Vaulting Championships in addition to being a 2012 Pas de Deux National Champion with Megan Benjamin of Mt. Eden Vaulters and 2003 Pas de Deux National Champion.  Most notably, he was a standing base on the USA Silver Medal Team at WEG 2006 and was the compulsory expert on the USA Gold Medal Team at WEG 2010.  After spending 10 years coaching under his mentors Rick Hawthorne (Valley View Vaulters) and Devon Maitozo (FACE Vaulting Club), Blake decided to branch off as Founder and Coach of the Los Angeles Equestrian Vaulting Club in September 2011. Rebecca Herrera, our trot coach, has been vaulting since she was twelve.

She was a member of the Reserve Champion C Team in 2010 and 2011. In high school she coached gymnastics at the Crescenta-Canada YMCA. In college she was a member and Team Captain of the Claremont Colleges Intercollegiate Horseshow AssociationTeam. After graduating from Pitzer College she became the trot team coach. "My goals for LAEVC trotters is for vaulters to realize their potential as equestrians, athletes and young people, to gain confidence in and outside the arena, and to take responsibility for their own success".
